BeWell is the New Mexico State Health Insurance Exchanges. Like the federal Marketplace, it's still a platform for members to enroll in health insurance. But it's operated by the state, uses a different website (bewellnm.com) and offers more financial and enrollment support programs than the federal Marketplace.

Some states, like New Mexico, use state-based Exchanges instead of teh federal Marketplace because it lets them control more plan rules, tailor member support to their state's citizens, more strongly coordinate to avoid coverage gaps and save money.

If you want to use your premium tax credits or enroll after Dec. 15 during Open Enrollment, you'll use BeWell. Otherwise, you can still choose to enroll directly with BCBSNM.

Yes, if you qualify. Premium tax credits are still available, just enhanced premium tax credits have expired. You can qualify if you have an annual household income between 100% or 400% of the federal poverty level. This year, Open Enrollment for 2027 plans starts Nov. 1. It ends Jan. 15. During that time, anyone can choose a new health insurance plan for themselves or their family. A few days before Open Enrollment begins, you can come back to window shop and compare your options before enrolling.
